This stately Piedmont Craftsman was built in 1914 and retains much of its vintage charm, including bay windows, original fireplaces and built-ins, and hardwood flooring. With two bedrooms on the main floor, an upstairs master suite, downstairs guest and entertainment rooms, plus two dedicated offices, a deck, and a yard, you’ll have plenty of room to spread out – on three levels!
The house is set back from the street, with a flowering magnolia in the front yard and a white picket gate that separates the side driveway from the front parking pad. You step up to a wide, covered front porch and through the original wide front door into a wide, central foyer. On your right, through a wide curved arch, is the formal living room with a wall of windows looking out to the front yard. This bright, spacious room is anchored by a working fireplace, which is flanked by two original arched built-ins. On the left of the foyer, a second gracious arch leads to the formal dining room, with a built-in buffet and long window along the side wall. Both rooms have warm hardwood flooring and custom window treatments.
A smaller arched doorway in the rear of the dining room leads to the kitchen and the rest of the rooms on this level of the house. The kitchen is a lovely mix of modern and vintage, and is built around a central butcher block island and breakfast bar. On one side is an “L” workspace, with black corian countertops, a 6-burner Viking stove and hood, deep sink, Bosch dishwasher, and plenty of upper and lower cabinets. The opposite “L” has a floor-to-ceiling original built-in with glass upper cabinets and drawers beneath. There is a built-in pantry alongside it, with matching celadon colored glass paned doors, plus a stainless steel fridge. It’s an efficient and warm room, truly at the heart of the house.
Off the kitchen is a cozy dedicated office, with built-in shelving and desk overlooking the backyard, as well as a side patio door that leads out to the driveway and yard. At the back of the house, also off the kitchen, is a large sunroom that has been customized as a media room, with a built-in TV cabinet along one side. Large patio doors open out from the sunroom to a huge, sunny L-shaped back deck – large enough for a table for 10, or (and!) kids big wheel races, or whatever your heart desires! The rear bedroom has patio doors that lead out to the back deck, and the front bedroom has an alcove perfect for a desk or reading nook. Both have ample closets and original hardwood floors. The bathroom is between them, with a large original rounded tub, updated shower, and built-in vanity between two windows along the back wall.
Next to the hall bathroom, a set of stairs leads up to the top floor master suite, tucked under dormer ceilings and looking out over both the front and back yards.
The home also has a huge downstairs entertainment and guest space, which you access through stairs off the kitchen as well. At the bottom of these stairs is a sunny playroom with large patio doors that open out to a lower patio under the deck, as well as the backyard. The laundry room is just off this room, with a HE washer and dryer and fun purple walls to cheer up your laundry days.
A hallway with built-in bookshelves leads back to a big, carpeted bonus room, lined with windows on one side, with tons of room for playing, video gaming, gymnastics, present wrapping, band practice – you name it! It’s the ideal pandemic indoor playground. There is a 4th bedroom off the entertainment room, and a 3rd full bathroom with a standing shower.
The backyard is easily accessible from both the upper deck or the downstairs playroom. It gently slopes downward and has wonderful fruit trees (fig, pomegranate, lemon) plus raised beds for veggie gardening and a chicken coop along the back wall. There’s a spacious 2-car garage at the end of the long side drive with built in shelving, perfect for projects or for storing a special car or special sporting gear.
